Wedding Day Getting Ready Tips

Welcome back to HITCHED: The Wedding Series - aka the portion of the blog that dives deep into all things weddings. Today we are chatting all about wedding day getting ready tips - from the prep beforehand to the morning of, I hope that you can walk away feeling excited and ready to step into your big day.

Prep in advance

The last thing you want is to show up on your big day running around like a chicken with your head cut off. I recommend a “details box” for all of my couples. This can be your shoebox, a Tupperware, or even a cute trunk to store all of your details that need to be photographed. On top of a details box, definitely be sure to have an emergency kit stocked with stain remover, a sewing kit, medicine, Liquid IV, you name it. Trust me, your wedding party will thank you.

SET THE VIBE

Create a getting-ready playlist that pumps you up and sets the mood. Whether you're into Beyoncé, High School Musical, 2000’s alternative, trap rap, or all of the above if you ask me, turn on your playlist and let the good times flow. Extra points for a dance party with your besties – it's the perfect way to shake off those pre-wedding jitters and an awesome photo op. Check out my personal Getting Ready Playlist if you need some inspo!

stay hydrated

Not much to say here - just drink the damn water! You are go-go-go on your big day and the last thing you need is to feel groggy or dehydrated come to your reception when you’re meant to be dropping it low on the dancefloor. Also pro tip, hydrated skin is the best skin!

Embrace the Chaos

Okay TBH – getting ready on your wedding day can be pure chaos. Embrace it and just go with the flow. Don't stress about every little detail going perfectly and just live in the moment and take everything in. Trust that you hired experts that can ebb and flow as the day goes along - it’s their job to stress, not yours.

Tidy Up

Now even though the morning of your wedding goes by in a flash, make sure that someone (or multiple someones) in your bridal party is in charge of tidying up the getting ready space before your photographer arrives. Though we love to capture the day as is, a pesky water bottle, sticky boobs or a half-eaten sandwich in the background kills the vibe.

CAPTURE THE behind the scenes

As a wedding photographer, I can't stress this enough – make sure you've got someone on hand to capture all the behind-the-scenes moments. These candid shots are pure gold and will be cherished for years to come on top of the beautiful photos that you’ll receive in your wedding gallery. I recommend a wedding content creator rather than a bridesmaid or friend so that EVERYONE can stay present and celebrate the beautiful day that you’ve put together. There you have it, fam – a handful of tips that will help you step into your big day feeling at ease, excited, and prepared. If you have any questions about prepping for your big day or want to just chat, find me on Instagram and we can continue the convo!
